Revocation of Citizenship for Syrian Businessman in Cyprus

In 2011, the Cypriot Cabinet granted citizenship to a Syrian businessman and cousin of President Assad, despite his involvement in corruption scandals. Four months later, due to the situation in Syria and European Union sanctions, the government revoked his citizenship and that of his family. The Supreme Constitutional Court upheld this decision, stating that his actions were contrary to the moral values of Cypriot society.
