Weaknesses in the Internal Governance of Eurozone Banks
May 12, 2025
The internal governance of Eurozone banks has significant weaknesses and violations of preventive requirements, according to a new report by the Single Supervisory Mechanism. In 2024, 441 sanction procedures were completed, most of which related to internal governance issues. The total fines amounted to approximately €27.9 million, with a significant penalty of €10.4 million imposed on a large bank. Governance will remain a central issue in the future.
