Ongoing COVID-19 Deaths in the US
May 24, 2025
Over five years since the outbreak of COVID-19, deaths from the virus in the US remain high, with an average of 350 weekly deaths. Although this number has decreased significantly from the peaks of 2021, the virus continues to pose a threat, especially to vulnerable populations. Low vaccination rates and waning immunity are some of the reasons for ongoing deaths. Experts warn of the need to boost vaccination coverage, particularly among those aged 65 and older.
