Turkish Cypriots Request Protection and Census from Republic of Cyprus
July 12, 2025
Turkish Cypriots are urging the Republic of Cyprus to file a complaint against Turkey at The Hague, accusing it of altering the demographic character of the region. In a letter from the Movement of Cypriots for Peace and Solidarity, they state that this situation is an obstacle to resolving the Cyprus issue. Additionally, the Turkish Cypriots are calling on President Christodoulides to request a census in the northern part of Cyprus from the UN. The letter carries political significance as it counters claims made by the Turkish Cypriot leadership.
