Findings on the Criminal Responsibilities of Former Officials Regarding Takata Airbags
July 14, 2025
The Investigative Committee for the Takata airbags found serious shortcomings in their management by the Road Transport Department. The policy change in 2017 created a gap in accountability for owners of older vehicles, putting their safety at risk. The Committee suggests a criminal investigation against four former officials, including ministers. This process will examine whether there was an abuse of power and if the officials were aware of the consequences of the circular.
