Increase in Chikungunya Virus Cases in China

In China, there is an increase in cases of the Chikungunya virus, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. Over 7,000 cases have been reported in the city of Foshan, with two confirmed cases in Europe. The outbreak appears to have started from an imported case. The Chinese government has activated a mosquito control plan. The virus is transmitted only by mosquitoes and not from person to person.
