Dismissal of Witnesses in the Assioti Missing Persons Case
August 16, 2025
Turkish Cypriot witnesses who testified about the discovery of bones belonging to 70 missing Assioti were dismissed by Turkey. Only one of the six witnesses remains, making it easier for him to be discredited. The testimonies reveal that the bones were transported and buried in pits, although some skeletal remains have been identified. Turkey presents arguments that hinder progress and facilitate the obstruction of excavations. The Community Council expressed concern over the lack of action from the Republic of Cyprus.
