Putin's Tribute to Soviet Pilots in Alaska
August 16, 2025
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the cemetery of Soviet pilots in Alaska, honoring those who lost their lives during World War II. The visit was symbolic and took place after his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. These pilots were trained in Alaska and many died during the transport of aircraft due to adverse weather conditions. Their remains were moved to Fort Richardson in 1946, and their existence was officially recognized in 1990. Today, the burial site serves as one of the few monuments connecting the two countries.
