Exemption of MPs from Social Insurance Contributions in Cyprus

August 22, 2025

In Cyprus, members of parliament do not pay contributions to the Social Insurance Fund, yet they are entitled to parliamentary pensions. This is considered a privilege by some, as they also have the right to work during their term. While MPs pay a fixed amount monthly, it does not constitute a real pension scheme. In contrast, other state officials pay contributions and additional amounts to various funds. The law exempts them from contributions due to the nature of their office.
