The spread of the resistant fungus Candida auris in Europe raises concerns, with cases reported in countries like Cyprus and Greece. This fungus, first identified in the EU in 2014, is resistant to antifungal medications and can cause serious infections. Between 2013 and 2023, over 4,000 cases were reported in the EU, with a significant increase in 2023. Only 17 out of 36 countries have a national surveillance system for the fungus.
