Concerns Raised by OSCE Regarding Assembly Legislation
September 18, 2025
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights reviewed the assembly legislation passed by Parliament, criticizing provisions that do not align with EU regulations. MP Irini Charalambidou requested the OSCE's intervention, highlighting concerns about excessive restrictions and potential penalties that could undermine the right to assemble. The OSCE's opinion suggests corrective amendments to comply with international standards. Charalambidou plans to meet with the Minister of Justice to discuss the OSCE's recommendations. The ODIHR is also prepared to participate in discussions in Cyprus.
