Increased Seismic Activity in Cyprus
November 13, 2025
Cyprus has recently experienced significant seismic activity with around 50 aftershocks following a main earthquake of 5.3 magnitude. The director of the Geological Department indicated that the frequency of these tremors is unusual and similar to patterns recorded in Turkey, where two separate earthquakes occurred on the same fault line. The analysis of seismic data is complex, as several smaller tremors are recorded simultaneously. Despite concerns, he stated that the seismic activity is likely heading towards a release. The earthquakes occurred in a terrestrial area with active faults.
