Development in Ornithi and the Loss of Memory for the Assiotans
November 23, 2025
The site of the execution of over 70 Assiotans is being turned into a construction project, erasing the memory of this massacre. This area, known as Ornithi, was a small abandoned village until 1960. Recent construction activities are covering the spots where human remains were found, diminishing the memory of the victims. No monument or remembrance space will be built, as the plans prioritize residential developments. This situation raises concerns about the alteration of history and memory.
