Issues in Central Prisons: The Need for Reforms
December 21, 2025
The situation in the Central Prisons remains seriously problematic, as highlighted in the recent report by the Committee for the Prevention of Torture of the Council of Europe. Despite some improvements, overcrowding persists, with inmates living in unacceptable conditions. The lack of staff has led to inequalities among prisoners, while minors and women continue to face serious issues. The new Minister of Justice, Kostas Fitiris, is called upon to find solutions to this situation.
