Changes to the Holy Synod's Statute and Elections for Paphos
January 15, 2026
The Holy Synod is planning changes to its statutes, postponing the elections for the new Bishop of Paphos by about six months. Archbishop Georgios suggested that the elections be conducted under the new statutes, which exclude laypeople from participating and allow penalties to be imposed by simple majority. Additionally, defendants will not be represented by lawyers during the proceedings. These changes aim to facilitate quicker resolutions of legal matters within the Church. The new statutes are expected to be approved in six months.
