January 17, 2026
Cyprus is facing a severe water crisis, with dam levels dropping to 10.8% of their total capacity. The President of the Republic met with the Water Development Department to discuss a plan to save water reserves. The government is investing in desalinated water production, including mobile desalination units that will boost output. The new units are expected to increase daily water production to 282,000 cubic meters, meeting 80% of current water supply needs. Additionally, further opportunities for increasing production from existing infrastructures are being explored.
