New Legislation for Disability Rights and Assistance Dogs
January 26, 2026
The Parliament is advancing a law that will allow individuals with disabilities to have assistance dogs in public and private spaces. In Cyprus, only 5 out of 2,000 blind individuals have such dogs due to the lack of regulations. The law will impose fines of up to €8,000 for violations. Training these dogs is costly and available only in other countries. The proposal is supported by several ministries, but a comprehensive approach is needed for its implementation.
