EU Disagreements on Passenger Rights in Air Travel
January 31, 2026
The Council of the European Union and the European Parliament are in disagreement over passenger rights, particularly regarding flight delays and compensation. The European Parliament suggests stricter rules for airlines on compensation and handling complaints. Negotiations for the revision of regulation 261/2004 are ongoing, along with the international Montreal Convention. Passengers are entitled to compensation ranging from €250 to €500 in case of delays. The issue remains unresolved as no agreement has yet been reached.
