Assessment of Traffic Congestion in Nicosia and Strovolos

Transport Minister Alexis Vafaiadis stated that traffic in the road network of Nicosia and Strovolos is approaching saturation. If the Alexandroupolis road project does not proceed, saturation could reach up to 99%. Daily traffic has seen an increase of 7-10% in recent years, while previous studies used lower estimates. The project could reduce traffic loads by up to 70% in the core of Strovolos. Otherwise, delays and queues are expected to worsen significantly, impacting the environment.
