Quarantine Imposed in Cyprus Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Commission has imposed a quarantine across all of Cyprus due to a rise in foot-and-mouth disease cases. Strict restrictions affect movement and exports until May 1, 2026. Despite the requirement to cull infected animals, farmers have reacted hesitantly. The situation remains active due to inadequate management, with only 16,000 animals culled so far. These restrictions are deemed necessary to protect the European market.
