March 22, 2026
The European Emergency Veterinary Team visited Cyprus to assess the situation regarding foot-and-mouth disease threatening the livestock sector. There are reported infections in 42 cattle and sheep farms, affecting over 30,000 animals. Experts highlighted the need to strengthen veterinary services and impose restrictive measures. Concerns were raised about political pressures affecting decision-making. Immediate and decisive actions are required to protect the animals and the agricultural sector.
