Spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Livestock Units in Cyprus
April 8, 2026
Foot-and-mouth disease is spreading to seven more livestock units, affecting 2,610 sheep and goats. Less than 40% of the goat population has been vaccinated, while vaccination rates for cattle and pigs are higher. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to provide compensation for the losses caused by the disease. Larnaca and Nicosia are the most severely affected regions. Immediate actions are needed to control the spread of the disease.
