The Risks of Ultra-Processed Foods on Muscle Health
April 18, 2026
A new scientific study shows that the consumption of ultra-processed foods affects not only body weight but also muscle structure. Researchers found that higher consumption of these foods leads to fat infiltration in the muscles, which may decrease muscle function and increase the risk of musculoskeletal diseases, particularly knee osteoarthritis. The study involved 615 adults with an average body mass index in the overweight range. Over time, these changes may lead to reduced mobility and balance. Notably, knee osteoarthritis is common among older adults.
