Increase in Global Military Spending in 2025
April 27, 2026
Global military spending reached $2.9 trillion in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of increase. The United States, China, and Russia account for the largest share of these expenditures. Europe saw a 14% rise in military spending mainly due to the war in Ukraine and the reduction of U.S. support. Factors contributing to this increase include global geopolitical instability and armed conflicts. Germany and Spain also significantly increased their expenditures in 2025.
