Information on Hantavirus: Important Facts and Precautions
May 8, 2026
Infectious disease expert Nikos Sypsas reassures about hantavirus, stating it is not an epidemic and that its transmission is less easy compared to coronavirus. Hantavirus is known in South America, where mortality rates are high, but there is no vaccine or medication available. The virus spreads mainly through contaminated dust from rodent droppings. Symptoms include flu-like symptoms and, in more severe cases, bleeding. To limit transmission, carriers must be isolated for at least 30 days.
