Decline in Voter Participation and Questioning of Election Credibility

After World War II, elections spread worldwide, with 95% of countries conducting national elections. In 2024, 74 national elections were held in 62 countries, with 1.65 billion voters participating. However, the questioning of election credibility is increasing, and voter turnout is declining. Among the 39 countries that have shown lower electoral quality since 2018, many face government intimidation and irregularities. These elections pose serious challenges to democratic legitimacy.
