Severance Payments and Pensions for Retiring Legislators

Many legislators are leaving Parliament with generous severance packages, as they either were not re-elected or chose not to run in the elections. A total of 27 MPs are set to receive severance payments ranging from €90,000 to €250,000, depending on their terms in office. Additionally, starting at age 60, they will receive monthly pensions ranging from €1,600 to €4,500. The state budget for 2026 has allocated €2 million for the severance payments of retiring officials. Some MPs will donate their severance to their parties.
