Completion of Animal Culling Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Cyprus
June 7, 2026
The culling of 80,000 animals due to foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus has been completed. Authorities worked under difficult conditions and faced reactions and legal challenges. As of yesterday, 118 out of 120 infected units had been managed, and further sampling is expected. Farmers are cooperating with authorities, and compensation payments are progressing normally. This loss corresponds to a significant percentage of the livestock population in the country.
