Cyprus receives final approval for its first crematorium

June 13, 2026

After 25 years of efforts, Cyprus will finally have its first crematorium in Agia Varvara, Paphos. Maureen Watt, director of Angel Guardians Funeral Home, aimed to provide citizens with the choice of cremation, a desire that remained unfulfilled for years. Construction is set to begin in September, with completion expected in 2027 or 2028. The project will cost approximately 4 million euros and will cover over 1,000 square meters. Maureen's and others' efforts for this facility received substantial community support, with 91.5% of foreign residents preferring cremation.
