New Rules for Carry-On Luggage and Flight Compensation in Europe

June 15, 2026

Europe has decided to change the rules regarding carry-on luggage and compensation for flight delays after 10 years of negotiations. Passengers will be entitled to financial compensation if flights are delayed by at least three hours. The law, effective from 2027, will allow passengers to take a free small personal item and a larger carry-on bag. Compensation amounts will remain the same as they have been for the past 20 years. Airlines will need to include these items in their ticket prices.
