Iranian Man Arrested for Forged Documents in Cyprus

An Iranian man arrived in Cyprus in 2006 with a forged passport and applied for political asylum, which was rejected in 2011. He then remained illegally in the country, disappearing for eight years. In 2020, he was arrested and found guilty of forgery and illegal residency. He claimed he had no reason to order fake documents and that he came to Cyprus due to danger in his home country. The court considered his explanation not unreasonable on its own but also took into account the objective evidence of the case.
