Government Actions to Address Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Cyprus
June 22, 2026
The government has initiated a major effort to address the crisis caused by foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus. The first case has been confirmed, affecting over 121 livestock units. So far, nearly 80,000 animals have been culled, with compensation costs reaching almost 30 million euros. Despite the situation, livestock farmers are showing responsibility and cooperating with authorities to ensure public health. A new epidemiological surveillance program is set to help monitor the situation.
