Assessment of the Rabbitfish Presence in Cyprus

Cyprus has begun implementing a funding plan for fishermen to remove the rabbitfish, which has resulted in the capture of over 100 tons of this species. The spread of the rabbitfish is linked to its ecological adaptability and the lack of natural predators. The rabbitfish is characterized by its elongated body, strong teeth, and ability to inflate itself. Its presence has increased in the Mediterranean, especially in Cyprus, over the past 20 years.
