Discussion on the Powers of the Anti-Corruption Authority
July 2, 2026
The Parliament is discussing strengthening the powers of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority to appoint criminal investigators. While there are three proposed laws, the situation remains uncertain due to arguments and tensions during discussions. Special attention was given to the presence of the Assistant Attorney General, Savvas Angelidis, who recused himself from the process. Angelidis emphasized the need for a substantive dialogue and appropriate rules for investigative procedures. It is important that legislative changes ensure objectivity in criminal investigations.
