Revisiting Femicide and Gun Ownership in Cyprus

Recent tragic incidents have brought to light issues of femicide and gender-based violence in Cyprus. Statistics reveal that there have been 16 femicides in the last six years. Gaps in mental health assessments for gun owners raise serious concerns. Notably, in 2025, 647 women and children sought refuge in shelters for victims of violence. Femicide is defined as the murder of women due to their gender.
