Serious State of Gender-Based Violence in Cyprus
July 6, 2026
The Chief of Police emphasized that the issue of gender-based violence is more serious than previously believed. Between 2021 and 2026, over 18,000 reports of domestic violence have been made, with only 16% of perpetrators being arrested. Services have noted an increase in incidents and reports, with many victims seeking help. Women who are victims of domestic violence have access to shelters. Despite the efforts, there are gaps in legislation and procedures that need to be improved.
