Paphos Municipality Oversight Mechanisms Under Investigation

The investigation by the Audit Office into the Paphos Municipality may lead to criminal implications due to allegations of mismanagement of public funds during the tenure of Mayor Phaidonas. In an urgent meeting, serious cases were discussed that could result in informing the Attorney General or the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority. Specifically, there was concern about the calculation process for compensatory fees that were not properly recorded in the Municipality's accounts. Moreover, criminal investigations may follow if any criminal offenses are identified. Lastly, the funds for public benefit works often went to a limited circle of contractors without sufficient oversight.
