July 9, 2026

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his disappointment regarding the decision of DISY and AKEL to vote against the government's proposal for an extension of the services of the Deputy Minister for European Affairs. He believes this decision adversely affects the process of the Multiannual Financial Framework, which pertains to European funds. While he expected this attitude from AKEL, he did not anticipate it from DISY. The President stated that the executive authority will find ways to proceed for the benefit of Cyprus. He also thanked the parties that supported the government's proposal.
