New UN Solution Plan for Cyprus Issue
July 13, 2026
The UN special envoy is working on a new solution plan for the Cyprus issue, differing from previous ones. This plan proposes a loose federation that might meet Turkish demands for two separate states. The process is being accelerated to resolve the 1974 stalemate when the island was divided. Authorities hope the new structure will be acceptable to both sides and suggest a rotating presidential council. However, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will need to cede land as part of the agreement.
