Risks of Losing European Funding for Green Transition in Cyprus
July 14, 2026
Cyprus is at risk of losing €30 million in funding from the Recovery Fund due to the failure to implement critical prerequisites for green transition. So far, €23 million has been disbursed from special water fees, but the introduction of carbon tax and waste landfill tax is uncertain. Local authorities are expressing concerns about infrastructure, hindering progress. The Commission has temporarily suspended €46 million in funding related to these goals. The government is attempting to modify the recovery plan to minimize potential losses.
