Georgitsis' Testimony on the 1974 Coup

On July 2, 1986, former officer Michail Georgitsis testified before the Greek Parliament's inquiry committee regarding the coup of July 15, 1974. Georgitsis was appointed to lead the coup and revealed how recklessly Ioannidis and Bonanos underestimated its consequences. While military officers were aware of the dangers, their superiors showed little concern. His testimony highlights the carelessness with which the coup was planned. It is tragic that the officers recognized the challenges, but the political leadership remained indifferent.
