New Code Promoting Breastfeeding Implementation in Cyprus

July 23, 2026

The new code governing breast milk substitutes is being implemented in Cyprus, requiring health professionals to be trained in promoting breastfeeding. The provision of free samples of breast milk substitutes and the participation of staff in advertising are prohibited. Maternity service facilities will be regularly evaluated to improve breastfeeding rates. The policy promotes the creation of supportive communities for mothers. It aims to ensure that at least 80% of healthcare professionals involved in maternal and neonatal care are trained.
