Automatic Voter Registration: New Voting Opportunities for Cypriots

Automatic registration to the electoral rolls is expected to significantly impact the presidential elections in 2028, increasing the electorate by 92,000 individuals, or about 14%. This means many new voters, as well as those who had not previously registered, will have the opportunity to participate. This change will also affect the distribution of seats by district, with Nicosia regaining some seats from Paphos. However, the success of automatic registration depends on the actual participation of these new voters. The new law applies only to Cypriot citizens residing in the free areas.
