August 5, 2026
The French investment group Meridiam is set to take control of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), which is planning the electrical interconnection between Greece and Cyprus. The agreement is expected to be signed in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and will enhance the funding for the project, budgeted at over €2 billion. Additionally, a trilateral agreement for marine research, which is critical for the project's implementation, will also be signed. Meridiam's involvement is expected to accelerate the project after previous delays. This endeavor aims to break Cyprus's electrical isolation.
