Lavrov: Turkey Will Not Join the EU

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Turkey will never become a member of the European Union, despite its desire to maintain close ties with it. He also referred to Turkey's need for stability in the Black Sea, as well as to the attacks by Kyiv that Russians consider terrorist acts. While Turkey seeks agreements to protect shipping, Lavrov emphasized that Russia does not want half-measures. His remarks come during a period of proposed initiatives for safe corridors in the Black Sea. Finally, Moscow rejects proposals for a limited ceasefire.
