Fuel Price Increases Expected From 2028 Due to European Directive

September 1, 2026

Starting in 2028, fuel prices in Cyprus are expected to rise due to a new European directive promoting renewable energy sources. The national contribution will increase to 42.5% by 2030, which will add extra costs. It is estimated that the price of gasoline will rise by 2.5 cents and diesel by 7 cents per liter. The government is working on compensatory measures worth €174 million to support vulnerable consumers. Additionally, there is a plan for subsidies for electric vehicles and other supports set to begin in 2027.
