President Christodoulides stated that he was unaware of the planned purchase of a bulletproof limousine costing €595,000. The decision to procure the vehicle was made by the Cabinet, and the Ministry of Finance indicated that funding is needed from Parliament. The President expressed that such decisions should be made by the relevant authorities without presidential involvement and suggested that there was a deliberate leak of information aimed at damaging his reputation. In response to criticisms, he labeled some as populist and shared a personal instance of using his private car with his daughter.
