Stricter Controls Against Pollution in Limassol

Pollution of the sea and coastal front in Limassol remains a serious issue, stemming from sources such as illegal wastewater discharges. The Parliamentary Environment Committee discussed this problem and decided to impose stricter controls. Two fines of €20,000 each were levied against the Limassol Sewerage Authority and a contractor for violations related to pollution. The deputy director of the Environment Department emphasized the need to protect marine resources. Several pollution sources are currently under monitoring.
