Proposals for the Reconstruction of Cypriot Livestock
September 11, 2026
Professor Stavros Malas presented a €610.9 million action plan for the recovery of Cypriot livestock. The recent foot-and-mouth disease crisis revealed weaknesses in the system, affecting 121 livestock farms. The plan includes the reconstruction of sheep and goat farming and cattle farming, aiming to improve productivity and quality. Compensation for farmers has reached €17.3 million, but the losses in milk production are significant. The proposed strategy aims to double the production of sheep and goat milk within 12 years.
