Discovery of Tunnel Beneath Hagia Sophia and Ongoing Restoration Works

The Turkish Minister of Culture announced the existence of an extensive tunnel approximately 9 kilometers long beneath Hagia Sophia. Cleaning and restoration work on accessible sections has already begun. Additionally, he stated that the restoration and strengthening works on Hagia Sophia are the most comprehensive in the history of the Turkish Republic. The minister emphasized the importance of preserving this historical monument for future generations. Work will continue with the aim of ensuring safety and accessibility for visitors.
